Feel free to chime in, agree or disagree, on this random thought I just had.
With all this news of writing and Robby teasing us with news of new recordings, I gotta wonder. Does this mean that any possibility of another single is effectively swept under the rug and they're trying to move on from the album due to the general lack of success?
I mean, it has been a month since Notbroken fell off the face of the planet chart-wise and we haven't heard a peep about a third single (just to contrast, when they followed up with this after Home, they announced it as a single not too long after it had peaked and hit the chart a month later). I know they usually have three singles per album cycle, but given Notbroken's lack of success on their core format as opposed to other second single's stronger performances, you think it blew it for them?
Thoughts?

I'll admit upfront that i know crap about the music business but I think you're being a little harsh on SFTROU. It debuted in a high position. Home did extremely well. Concerts were well attended last year when other bands were canceling dates. The ggd were everywhere on television last fall. The reviews were mixed but ggd reviews have always been mixed. All in all, that's not exactly the Big Fail.
Gotta say I don't know why Not Broken didn't do well but I don't think anything got blown.
I said this before, I think that the current recording is for the upcoming Transformers soundtrack. The band has a pretty good history with soundtracks. Isn't it reasonable to assume that the inclusion of Rob Cavello is a good thing and that means the record company still backs the band? And would that necessarily preclude another single being released the current CD?
The three singles off of LLI were Better Days, SWY and LLI. Wasn't there talk of another single for before BITL was churned out? Was Better Days the choice for the first single off of LLI or did it earn that spot after CNN picked it up?
Your questions are interesting ones and I think lead to other big picture thoughts that would be discussion worthy. Sorry, my answers are fairly disparate. Gotta go take care of some business, but I'll check back in later tonight.

Without You Here was supposed to be the third (technically fourth single) but that never materialized (truth be told, the only mention of this was from John and we all know how much say he has). Better Days was already a single off a Christmas Target CD and not a part of LLI though it was tacked onto the release.

I'm not sure what to think of it, but for now I'll stick with the soundtrack story for two reasons. Transformers is Warner and so is Cavallo, so it makes sense he's producing it, although it could just be his close relationship with the band. For what it's worth, John said he's taking some time of soon, another album means another 2 years of touring and they're still on the Something tour until at least the summer. I know John's been saying this for the last few years, but they did buy a house to be close to Melinas family. The band's been hyping things before, so I expect this to be just this one song for the transformers. I DO hope they'll do some other amazing thing, maybe a special EP for the upcoming 25th anniversary? *dreams on* ;D

Blegh. I just wrote a long thingy and read it back and hated it so I'm just going to sit here and wait to find out what they're doing before I have opinions on things. This is my favorite idea so far. I submitted a QandA asking if they had any plans to celebrate their 25th year so naturally they answered questions like 'What would you be doing if you weren't in a band?' and 'What are you reading?' instead.

Great idea, I'll ask a similar question. Even if they don't answer it, Wendy might ask them at some point and it will get them thinking. Small chance but worth trying, I hardly ever know a good question to ask anyway. @em Maybe we can try Voodoo. ;D

the lack of notbroken's success came as a surprise to me, seeing as it was apparently one of their most downloaded songs on itunes ever? No, it wasn't. That was the claim of an idiot associate at WBR who didn't know what they were doing. The algorhythm on iTunes is meant to show what song is currently popular at any given time in that list that displays 'Top songs' through recent purchases. Notbroken did not outsell Iris, it just happened to be more popular than it at the time of the album's release. Please excuse the rant, it's just that I've had to correct many, many people.

I'm with you, it's almost as bad as the I'll be failure.. we'll get to correct this for many year to come. About Notbroken, this is what I wrote on another forum last week: -- Notbroken didn't do well because it was very badly timed (kinda released just before Christmas) and it was suppose to be properly released in January but Warner fucked up and never gave the song a proper Ad on the radio, so a lot of stations didn't want to play the song. It's unbelievable how Warner keeps fucking up promoting our band up every time again. I hope the next album will be released on Good Charamel. ;D -- It never got an Ad right? not even after the supposed Ad date of January 15.

I don't know what happened with the adds date. It was supposed to be on the 10th, but either people didn't want to or the 'official' date never happened.

I understand correcting the misstatement that NB isn't the most popular/downloaded ggd song on iTunes but I think danny's post still has some validity. Wasn't it the noticeable increase in iTunes popularity (after a television appearance?) that made NB a candidate for the 2nd single? Can someone explain what it means for a song to be properly released to radio? What does an Ad mean to songs being played on radio? Again my ignorance is showing. Thanks for any insight. In any event the latest WB PR for the spring tour doesn't even mention NB so that's certainly evidence of what WB thinks. OK, it sucks that a good song didn't get its due, but time to move on.

It sold a disproportionate amount of individual purchases of the song compared to the album when it came out. Not because of a television appearance. I personally think it owed to the fact it was a new song people wanted because of their performances on the summer tour, but I wouldn't know for sure. Radios have 'adds dates' to properly push them to stations as 'an official single'. If it never has an adds date, it's not an official single and any airplay garnered by that is unsolicited and usually weaker than if they would have gotten the adds date push for stations to adopt the single. Real was like this. It never was made an official single and reached No. 39 on the Hot AC charts through unsolicited play. This is also why some are arguing whether or not it broke their streak of top tens on the format at the time. And I never made it about Notbroken not getting its due, I was wondering if it mucked up things for a third single and they're trying to move past the record (to a point). As for what they're recording, part of me thinks its for Transformers 3, but Robby had said they're recording a bunch of songs during the break so it makes me wonder if its more or if he misspoke somehow.
