I don't know how many of you frequent AG (ok, maybe I do, so sue me ), but there's a major screaming match/whine-fest goin' on about the band's set list (check here if you dare, the thread gets derailed quick). I'm curious as to what your honest thoughts are. That's right, ladies and gentlemen (no matter how few you may be, hehe), I am officially stiring the pot. Personally, I stick by what I said in the AG thread. While I wouldn't mind a few oldies (not to mention some cool GF B-sides), I can honestly understand why they don't play older stuff and I'm not about to cry a river like some people are if they don't. What can I say? I'm a very complacent person. My only gripe is that some LLI songs really shouldn't be there, which I'm guessing will (hopefully) go by the wayside once they have to whore play the new stuff.

It's more interesting there than it has been in a long time...I think that the setlist does need mixing up on a regular basis, or it gets a bit stale...There are songs that they kind of need to play like Iris, Name, Black Balloon etc..because so many fans really love these songs...I wish they tossed out all of the LLI songs, and added a few older ones...I would love to hear Up Yours and Lazy Eye Live...

Oh, you know I'd totally go for some LE. That would be wicked. As would some interchangeable songs mixed in an X amount of staples. You know, it's people like that guy/girl (for some reason I'm guessing it's a guy) really pisses me off. I just hate those fans who have a false sense of entitlement for being long-time fans. They just give a bad name to us all. I'd like certain things, but I'd rather take a realistic approach and be happy with what I got instead of chronically complaining about stupid stuff like set lists and never be happy or feeling like I have to wait it out and expect them to surprise me.
Plus you'd have to be pretty big dumbass to pull that kind of shit on AG. I mean, c'mon, where's your head at dude? It's not to say that everyone thinks it's all sunshine but, c'moooon.

Okay. I'm weighing in... On one hand, you know what? I'd be STOKED to have one tour when Takac STFU'd (I'm going somewhere with this, so don't freak out on me...) and RID THE SETLIST OF ANY SINGLES, and just went rarity/cover/b-side crazy. However, there's this thing called REALITY!!! And, as pie in the sky as I sometimes get... I know THAT will never happen. And, truth be told, I. DON'T. WANT. IT. TO. I like hearing the singles/hits, even the two I'm sick of on any other basis. And, yeah, my heart would probably ache if they didn't do BB... So, I'm completely cool with the "staples". It's just realism. I know, also, that they have to pimp the latest album, and yeah, I bitch about LLI-heaviness, but then I remember that, in the last cycle, it was the same with GF. Meaning, it's just them doing what they need to do as musicians: promoting their latest work, and that's perfectly understandble. (and, I am very interested to see what from LLI sticks around in the new era.) Last, not to pull any pretentious oldergoober bullshit... But, yeah, okay, I would like a throwback HERE AND THERE. I'm not asking for an hour of FR-SSCW, no. I just want a song or two that calls back to their roots, and, perhaps, NOT THE SAME THROW-BACKS they typically use... For instance? I love CYG/1000, but, you know what? There're other songs. And, well, this is just obvious, but... More Takac. I really feel like he's starting to quiet down, and if that's his CHOICE, then, okay... But, if... He's doing it because he feels like... He *should*, then, he's wrong... More Takac!!! ...and, that's my story, and so it goes.

Expressing disappointment is one thing, but the way he did it was just asking for trouble. And trouble he got.
EyesWideOpen summed it up perfectly over there by saying,
'I personally don't have an issue with intelligent discussion, but baseless bitching and griping gets on my last nerve. This is a fan site, and most of the discussion is usually positive, but hey, sometimes it gets hot in here, deal with it.'

Older is better, at least variety is the spice of life. I like rock music and would love to hear more SSCW and ABNG songs live.

I would love to hear some of the older stuff too and i think the set list needs to be changed up even if it is the same songs just put them in a different order.

True, sequencing is a big deal... And, unless it's just too much work, like, on a technical level, to change it up... You'd think they'd change it up automatically so THEY don't get too comfortable.
I'd also like a new cover song this time around. (I'm not a big GaLB fan, and American Girl is awesome, but... New cover would still be cool.)

That's what I meant in being stupid for posting on AG. You can't say something like that without getting attacked, at best you can get away with being leary/on the fence with your opinion. Mind you, I don't think the way he initially phrased his opinion helped. Set off the censors alarms, that's what it did. Regardless, unless if the band looks at the boards, whatever the hell you post is moot. No improvement will ever come from it. They're going to continue whatever the hell they want, though AG probably has connections to them. Either way, I can't stand people who criticize in hopes that they'll magically come across your post and change the error of their ways. It won't happen and that energy is wasted on arguing. I'm not saying don't have an opinion, but voicing it for that reason alone is pointless. I keep them to myself unless if someone asks for it. I had to laugh when today's update over there had a quote from John that was so obviously trying to quell the arguing there. Hopefully it'll shut him up. Lol.

Well, I agree that doing it on AG probably won't have much impact...I only noticed that thread when you linked us up to it...I don't think fans can "magically" impact the Goos, but I think if enough people voice their opinions, it might have a subtle impact on the band, and get them to think about what the fans want and truly think...They did ask us all in 2007 what songs we wanted to change on the setlists after many people expressed their disappointment on IM...So, it can have somewhat of an impact...One opinion leads to another, which leads to more etc...Anyway, it doesn't hurt to try to get what you want...Ultimately, they will do what they want, but if they are kind of on the fence anyway then maybe a push in the right direction is what's needed.

I agree Sue. After all they do this for the fans since fandom is what generates income. They want to keep us happy on some level. And when you have been around as long as they have they should give the occasional nod to the long term fans.
