The weather there was perfect even though it was supposed to rain/thunderstorm all afternoon. Parachute was very energetic and even though I didn't know most of their songs, I love love loooved their cover of the Wallflowers' One Headlight. They closed out to the one song I knew well which was Something to Believe In and I loved that too. Nicole and I were pretty much center-rail. The pit was the best and most polite I've in but the photographers were being assholes and in our way because the stage at Darien is high and there were no platforms so they were using the steps on the other side of the rail. So basically they were blocking a lot of us at rail for the first 3 songs(you can see it in my Last Hot Night/Here Is Gone videos) and Nicole wasn't having it but I'll let her tell you about it when she has the time. Also, one of them failed to make friends by calling her a ginger (which she's clearly not). It's super funny to me because I had the same thing happen to me last weekend (we have similar hair colour). Michelle Branch was super-adorable and she played two new songs (on top of Loud Music) from her upcoming album West Coast Time. She gave a shout out to some people at rail who had made shirts that said 'Loud Music' on them. Also, her drummer took a dive into Niagara Falls. GGD weren't really chatty (but that's a given during a hometown show) but I saw smiles here and there. Robby was especially adorable and at one point he stuck his gum on an amp. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed from recorded performances of Lucky Star and ATYA I'd seen before, but I really liked both at Darien. I have the latter on video. On a more general note, Robby was on fire at Darien and I had to refrain from shouting 'Screw this rain!' when he played January Friend. Old habits, you know. I keep on forgetting to record Stay With You every time I go to a show and I swear to God I will remember for Houston because they always do such a kick ass job of it. The Broadway from Darien was the best rendition I've ever ever seen. And it's a bit of a mind fuck to have Big Machine as part of the encore but I approve so hard. After the show, we hung around to see a bit of Parachute doing a bit of an acoustic jam outside the venue and that was cool. Second year I've heard someone do a cover of I Won't Back Down. And I must have had several horseshoes up my ass because shortly after I walked to my car and plucked out at least a dozen beer cans/bottles from under my car (not to mention a hoodie to boot), I got out of the parking lot. To those who do not know, normally it takes at least an hour -- and that's if you're lucky -- to get out because the parking set up is terrible. I got out in less than ten minutes after walking back from Parachute's outside thing.

That's why I did the recording for you. I remember that when he came out with the white Nash telecaster after Here Is Gone instead of the beat-up coral-red one that I know he uses for Big Machine I was like, 'OMG, are they gonna do what I think they're gonna do?' and when he played those first notes I had to turn to Nicole in an 'are you hearing what I'm hearing?!' way.

I'm not totally selfless about FD possibly hopefully being back for good. Got a couple more shots at seeing the band this summer. But if it only got played one more time, it was the right place & time. Great comments, I love about hearing people's experiences at shows. Nothing replaces being at a live performance. My epiphany was hearing American Girl towards the end of the LLI tour. It was an otherwise lackluster performance by the band ( ) but that one song was so totally worth the drive, the hammered bimbos, and the venue nazi's. Anyone know if it was played last night or if there were any other changes to the set list? Intermittent reinforcement can be very powerful. Agree about the Wallflowers cover Parachute did. They also do a nice cover of Petty's Don't Back Down.

Sources say that FD was not killed and they played Naked as well during the encore.

I know people who are going to SPAC tonight so we'll know if things keep on going like this.

FD/Naked were not killed at SPAC. And they added GALB to the encore. I daresay, adding more songs smack dab in the middle of a tour? What is this nonsense?

Looks like Columbus got the same set. Oooh. I wonder if me and Jess'll hear Naked at the Houston show. *dreams*

Erica, it sounds like you and Nicole had a kick-ass show at Darien. I haz jealousy!
Also, just so it's known, I've been, basically, ignoring most of the set-list drama, pictures of the new light show, and all such nonsense, because I want to be totally BLOWN AWAY when I see 'em. (which, I just screwed myself a little, because I saw some light-show shots....omgi'msoexcited)
Anyway!!!! Carry on LSers! (Just poked my head in this thread.) ;-)

*pokes Jess*
I think you'll have fun with the set they're gonna play in Houston. The first time I heard it with that live broadcast from Cinci, I was like, 'OMG!!' repeatedly. To be fair though, if they do anything out of sequence/different, I'll be like 'OMG!!' again. I remember that happening in Syracuse with One Night when I thought they were gonna do Home.
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing the light show. I couldn't really do that at Darien because of the stage.
