I haven't watched the last 3 videos because I'm annoyed that the current band situation feels like the "John Rzeznik making the album he wants" band where Robby and Mike are just going to show up and play their instruments. Will these videos make me be happier or more annoyed?

It's just him messing around with the guitar and talking to Wendy about random things. Nothing like, 'oh, I want the album to sound like X' so...I'm guessing some kind of middle ground? The only thing he's said about a future album is that he wants to go back to the alt tunings since he got away from that on SFTROU.

Haha you'll be annoyed. I actually wanted to make a topic here asking when you guys think this band will stop to exist, but then I realised John's been saying this stuff for at least two decades so I'm not gonna drive myself crazy thinking he will go back to fixing sinks when he turns 50.

There's no point to a discussion like that. I mean, what would it accomplish if you were right or wrong? Nothing, really. Take what you can get out of them and enjoy them while they're still bothering to do this.

I'm not terribly on edge about the band quitting. If it happens, I look at it this way - I've gotten nearly FOURTEEN YEARS of this band when most people's favorite bands last a couple of years. When I became a fan, I thought they'd make one more album after DUTG and be done with it. So it would be insane for me to worry about them ending it. My issue is that it feels like this is setting up to be a John solo album more than a GGD album. It felt like LLI was very much's John's vision (and Glen Ballard's) and then SFTROU felt very much like John's vision (especially now that he's come out and said that the producer and initial studio were the wrong ones for him). And Robby hasn't even been allowed to fully write his own songs for the last two albums. So, John's holed up in a studio writing with a bunch of songwriters in LA. He's the only one talking about making a new album. Mike doesn't seem to be involved in the new album. Robby is definitely nowhere near either member of the band. I'm totally fine with John making new music and releasing it but at what point does it cease to be a GGD album and just become a John Rzeznik album with the other members playing on the tracks? I don't know... it's just hard to get excited about new GGD music when I'm not sure if it's actually GGDs.

You know, I'm not really personally worried about who's vision it is per se. I mean, wasn't the reason (or you could call it a joke even) John never struck out to do his own solo thing after his two solo Treasure Planet songs (well, one technical single) à la Rob Thomas was because it'd just sound like a GGD album anyway?

The thing that worries me most though is that I "only" saw them live 3 times. I know there's people here who never saw them live, so maybe I shouldn't complain. I just hope they come back to the UK at least two or three more times before they call it a quit as a band. Also I hope the next time they're coming my health is a bit better, so I can enjoy the show some more. I see what you're saying with the last few albums and #10 being more John kind of albums. But maybe it just looks that way.. maybe Robby and Mike are still very much involved in the process. I don't know if Robby was "forced" to let John help him write his songs, or that he choose to. Also I don't know if it was any different with say DUTG and GF or the even older albums.
