I'm gonna try to do this again, because I'd just about finished my review when Internet Explorer died and I lost everything..
So my mom, dad and I went to see Rodrigo y Gabriela yesterday as you've probably noticed (when I get excited I tweet a lot. I mean, a LOT. but you've probably already noticed that too ). We arrived a little late due to lots of traffic between Amsterdam and Utrecht (which is where the concert was). The support act had already started playing when we walked in.. We went upstairs to the balcony and stood left, not too far, from the stage! A pretty great view to tell you the truth
Although it seemed like forever half an hour after the support act, the Alex Skolnick trio, very good too from what I've seen and heard (they came back later in the evening to do a song with Rodrigo and Gabriela, that was really cool!), had left the stage (that was 9PMish, so this was 9:30) Rodrigo y Gabriela kicked off their 2010 European tour! They started playing a song from their latest album, 11:11. a song dedicated to Carlos Santana (they dedicated quite a few songs to guitarists and even a pianist that have influenced them). The second song was either Tamacun or Diablo Rojo. Both of them are favourites of mine and I was sure it was Tamacun but a review I just read said it was Diablo Rojo.. (but I'm 95% sure that was the second to last song they played) Either way, it was fantastic!!
I'd already seen these two live two years ago (that's actually how I got to know their music) at Picnik in the Park, a festival with John Mayer amongst others. From what I remembered about that show and from what you can obviously hear they are fantastic, but when I saw them again last night.... I was speechless. There are no words to describe how good they are. There simply aren't.
Here's a video of Diablo Rojo:
This is just so you get an impression what they sound like live. If you like what you hear there are better (= higher quality) videos of this song on youtube.. (oh and check out their Stairway to Heaven cover if you haven't done that already!)
What I really like is how excited they were themselves. You should have seen Gabriela jumping around the stage while playing guitar. Fantastic!
but not only they were excited.. the crowd went wild! (something I wasn't quite expecting at a show like this) People were dancing and jumping around the floor! There was even this one guy up front headbanging to the sounds of Ixtapa (if my memory serves me right). That was so funny! and Rodrigo seemed to like a lot
When I thought the concert was over (after about 1 hour and 15 minutes) they just kept going! Seriously, I've seen a lot of bands live (I don't even know how many) but this concert was longer than most of the others I've seen! (if not all.)
All I can say is that it was a magical night!
Here's a review I found (in dutch so only Judith and Ronnie can read it and actually understand it lol) but there are lots of picture too:

oh and if you like them, there's an entire concert online on youtube! It's a Fabchannel video from the concert in Amsterdam (paradiso) and it's really good!
