Since I like to obsess over things like this, I'm creating a new thread for it. Appropriately so, it just charted on Hot AC today. 70 50 GOO GOO DOLLS All That You Are 234 63 171 0.996

I just hope the song breaks into the Top 20; that's all I'm expecting from a random soundtrack song for a horrible movie.

I just hope the song breaks into the Top 20; that's all I'm expecting from a random soundtrack song for a horrible movie. Someone talked to a DJ about how it's being received as a song while they phoned in to request it and they said it was being really well received so once things get back to normal post long-weekend, it should really blow up given that it's actually in the Transformers movie and it's making bank in the box office. Following the charts, it is steadily increasing in weekly spins, audience, chart position and what have you so I have no doubt in saying this'll surpass Notbroken's piss-poor peak. 41 34 GOO GOO DOLLS All That You Are 521 358 163 1.783

Yeah, I'm still unsure why NotBroken bombed... seemed to have all the makings of a hit and was received well on iTunes and at live shows.
I guess you can never know what will and won't be a hit.

Notbroken was supposed to get an Adds date, but never got one if I remember right. So radio stations didn't really pick it up. I'm almost sure Warner fucked it up, after Home didn't do that great, which btw was also in part their failure. That and some other reason I can't remember. We talked about it in another topic.

Home wasn't a failure though. Hitting top ten on Hot AC is/was pretty much the norm for them.
The problem was the timing (who the hell 'unofficially' releases something right before the end of the year?), the lack of a concrete adds date and the fact that if you don't know the back story, Notbroken can sounds the same old, same old thematically next to Home; people get tired of the same thing so close together. I mean, the only promo for this was Dancing With the Stars in October, Kimmel in December and two sports events that weren't the greatest fit for the song.

Notbroken had a couple major issues and it didn't shock me even a little bit that it tanked.
1. It was the second single - after a first single that struggled. Home was the first single. The label threw a lot of money and promotion behind it (lumped in with album promotion) in radio station visits, contests, etc. And Home still had a very long battle to peak. The second single never gets as much promotion as the first one and kind of has to rely on the success of the single before it.
2. Notbroken just sounded weird and out of place on the radio. I'm not insulting the song. While I didn't initially have very strong feelings for it but I've come to appreciate it after attaching something personal to it. But if you listened to it on the radio book ended between anything else on Hot AC radio, it just didn't fit in. That doesn't make it a bad song, just maybe not a song for radio, especially with the instrumental in the middle hacked out.
I don't love ATYA as a single but it has an enormous promotion machine behind it pretty much for free (that a third SFTROU single would not have gotten). John made fun of the first Transformers movie and isn't saying at all about the third one (and obviously doesn't love BITL to keep it in live setlists with the other singles). It's all about latching on to something huge for promotion to push your songs up the charts and sell more.
