Yeah, your second point was something I forgot to bring up. Honestly, both Home and Notbroken sounded as awkward as hell on radio. Doesn't make them *bad* songs, but still.

I don't pretend to get this stuff but I heard Home everywhere in the fall of 2010. Interesting point that Home and NB are thematically similar. I think NB is a gorgeous song that builds beautifully and kicks ass live. Maybe too complicated for radio? Takes more than 5 seconds to get to the hook? Fingers Xed for All That You Are.

Not arguing but I don't get how Home struggled.
nmf, shockingly not, much more articulate about Not Broken.

The thing is, we take for granted the back story. We've had that knowledge from the get-go, even before we heard the song, so it's very easy to think of it as a very different song from Home. The reason why I say this is because someone who did not have this back story pointed this out to me and taking a step back, it makes sense. Think about it. Home is about the speaker wanting to go home, where his loved ones are because he doesn't fit in elsewhere. Notbroken is about the speaker wanting her loved one to come home even though he feels like he wouldn't fit in back there. It's basically the opposite ends of the spectrum if you don't know the soldier story because John purposely pens these songs in generalities so it can apply to more people's lives. As for Home, it is certainly debatable of it struggling. I mean, it made top 10 by the skin of its teeth and it was stuck for weeks on end just hanging outside of it. The second it did, boom, crashed back down never to be seen again. It's kinda shady timing so...yeah. But personally, I don't think it's a failure. Maybe a little underachieving, but that's about it.

They just played Notbroken next to Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl' on my radio station. WAYYYYYYYYYY too complicated for the average radio listener.

Just bitching, like usual, from Houston...
Never heard NB. Period. Not even on the two Goo-friendly stations. Fucking Houston radio... And, yeah, I emailed my requests. I think they skip over my emails now...
But, with Transformers being a smash, maybe that alone will help ATYA? I hope so, I really like ATYA.

Definitely. Tons of free exposure.
Edit - As you'll notice with my periodic updates, the last column, audience impression (the number of people the stations spinning this reach), keeps on getting bigger.
36 32 GOO GOO DOLLS All That You Are 531 437 94 2.003
You can't see it from this chart here, but there have been more stations adding it (hence the increase in AUD). It's at 45 stations now.

It's a slow but steady climb. I'm guessing it'll peak around number 20 and then fall off into oblivion. Even if that's all it does that's still a good run. Of course, I'm hoping for a Top 10 here.

I doubt that given how massive Transformers is at the moment. Pulling this from a Home thread, this was where it was at the four weeks mark: 27 GOO GOO DOLLS Home 776 578 198 52 14.4 10.7 +3.7 28 GOO GOO DOLLS All That You Are 703 556 147 50 14.1 10.9 +3.2 Very, very comparable. And it'll get to No. 27 soon.

Transformers has been out, what, three weeks this Friday? Sorry, but its popularity has already peaked and it's not going to help carry the song in any way. The song is now on its own and with the strong momentum that was behind it now fading away I don't see it climbing any more than 10 more spots, thus placing it right around 20 (notice I stress AROUND 20, I think it may push up to 18 or 17, but no better than that).
Essentially, I don't think it's a stretch to see this song do better than my prediction, but I wouldn't attribute any of that to the movie from this point out. The movie gave it a nice boost early on, but has little to do with interest in the song for the future.
